Documents Posted on VR Committees' Sites in the Wake of Committee Hearings on Shale Gas Problems and Prospects in Ukraine Print

130808 report_on_shale_gas_vr_committee_hearings_150513_and_220513August 5, 2013, Kyiv — In June and July, two Verkhovna Rada committees on their sites published documents they adopted in the wake of committee hearings that were held in May and focused on problems and prospects of shale and other alternative gas production using the hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, technique.

The Committee for Fuel & Energy Complex, Nuclear Policy and Nuclear Safety publicized the Recommendations of the Committee Hearing on "Shale Gas Production in Ukraine: Prospects and Challenges" (May 15, 2013), and the Committee for Environmental Policy, Conservancy and Chornobyl Aftermath Elimination, the decision "On the Hearings at the Committee on 'Environmental Problems of Shale Gas Production in Ukraine'" held on May 22, 2013.

Speakers at both hearings included representatives from MAMA-86 – members of its Coordinating Council: the chairwoman of the Kharkiv City NGO "MAMA-86," Ms. Olga Tsygulyova, and the chairwoman of Artemivsk MAMA-86 in the Donetsk Oblast, Ms. Galina Oleynikova, respectively.
