About taking part in the training course
"Appropriate sanitation for the developing world"

15—19 August, 2005 — Assistant of the campaign "Drinking Water in Ukraine" "MAMA-86" Nataliya Gudkova took part in a training course on a theme "Appropriate sanitation for the developing world" at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Department of Mathematical Sciences Technologies (Es, Norway).

During a week more than 50 participants from Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America (in general, more than from 25 countries) have been acquainted with the fundamentals of the theory and practice of ecological sanitation, approaches and tools used to provide eco-sanitation solutions for developing countries. Solutions for crisis situations have also been discussed.

Course purpose was two-fold: (1) to illustrate how ecological sanitation is applied in developing countries, and (2) to explain, in-depth, the principles of ecological engineering. Analysis of s anitation situation in Asia, Africa and Latin America, and also technical solutions of sanitation problems have been presented in brilliant lectures of Professor Peter D. Jenssen (Norwegian University of Life Sciences), Heinz-Peter Mang (German development cooperation), Andreas Koestler (Yme (NGO), Norway), Iohannes Heeb (Seecon, Switzerland), Professor Thor-Axel Stenstrom (Linkoping University, Sweden) and other eco-sanitation experts.

The Eco-san course has been interested as for professionals from various sectors of society: representatives of consulting firms (civil engineers) and nongovernmental organizations, authorities (working in the field of ecology, health protection and the international relations), scientists, and to students of various universities.

Among participants awarded Ecosan course diplomas were the representatives of WECF water network: Nataliya Gudkova (Ukraine), Elena Manveljan (Armenia) and Gulbahar Izentaeva (Uzbekistan).
