«MAMA-86-Yaremche» Finished Building of the Central Water Pipeline Branch in Vorokhta

July 15 the environmental NGO "MAMA-86-Yaremche" finished building of the central water supply pipeline branch for the local dwellers in village Vorokhta, Ivano-Frankivsk oblast. The length of the branch is 195 m. Total cost of the work is 42,001 UAH. The building works under the project continued 2 weeks and were fulfilled by contractor — the private company of Tkachuk Yuriy (License #208392 from January 20, 2005). This branch of pipeline gave the possibility for more than 100 local dwellers to connect to the centralized water supply. For now people started to connect their own households to the water pipeline on their own money.

During the implementation of the Vorokhta water supply reconstruction project the public committee of Vorokhta (local community), Head and representatives of Vorokhta and Yaremche local authorities, Head of the Yaremche Water Supply and Sanitation provision department participated actively. This building has been fulfilled only due to the cooperation and active work of all stakeholders. Yaremche city Council prepared project documentation on the Vorokhta water supply reconstruction, built the central pipeline with total length about 1300 m in spring 2006. In nearest future there will be replacement of the upper parts of water supply pipeline. For this task 170 thousand UAH were allocated in the state budget. The rehabilitation of the water abstraction area, building of filtration station and pipeline are included in the action plan of the investments to Yaremche city economy in 2006—2008 with total sum of 2.6 mln UAH (decision of the executive committee of Yaremche city Council #40 from May 23, 2006).

Pilot project funded by MATRA Program helped to move from wishes onto the working plan development and implementation of practical steps to improve the access to drinking water in Vorokhta. Persistent work of "МАМА-86-Yaremche" with all stakeholders enabled finding the solution of the difficult local problem that has been waiting for the actions about 50 years. Involvement and cooperation of all project participants: authorities — village community — business — water sector allowed to found the approach and basis for the sustainability of the Vorokhta drinking water problem solution in the future.
