Goal and Objectives of the “Ecotelephone” Project

“Ecotelephone” is an information service that ensures access to reliable environmental information and provides consultations on healthy lifestyle and environmental rights of the Ukrainian citizens.

Goal of the “Ecotelephone” Hot Line is to raise awareness on environmental issues among the residents of Ukraine, develop patterns of environmental decision-making and actions, and promote improvement of environment, human health and well being for the quick transition of Ukraine to sustainable development.

Objectives:

• ensuring public access to reliable information on the state of environment and correlation between environmental pollution and health;
• providing consultations on healthy lifestyle for potential consumers;
• stimulating and protecting environmental rights of Ukrainian citizens.

Main activities :

• providing environmental information to citizens by phone, mail and Internet;
• holding awareness raising activity (lectures, workshops, trainings, etc.) among the children, students, teachers and workers;
• providing legal advice on protection of citizens' environmental rights;
• holding conferences, workshops, round tables, informational campaigns, exhibitions and competitions;
• forming and on-going updating of a data base;
• consultancy and cooperation with numerous project experts in different field of science;
• distribution of the printed materials among the general public;
• cooperation with mass media.

Target group: women, children, schoolchildren and students.

Amongst all environmental problems residents of the Kyiv city are mostly concerned with the level of water pollution and its quality, especially drinking water quality. Inquiries on drinking water quality from tap and artesian-wells sources and preparedness of open-air water reservoirs hold the top position in a range of priority issues of the “Ecotelephone”.

According to the Hot Line statistics, teenagers and youth become more interested in healthy lifestyle.

Quite often citizens apply for information about state of the atmospheric air, especially, in the cases of serious suffocation triggered by different causes.
