The joint meeting on public participation in environmental decision making: focus on Water and Health

6–8 June, Geneva : the Task Force on Public Participation (PP) in Decision-making of the Aarhus Convention and the Secretariat of the Protocol on Water and Health organized the joint meeting to discuss the ways for further elaboration of PP in decisions having a significant impact on the environment with focus on Water and health. The meeting included the open consultations on the Aarhus Convention’s Draft recommendations and the work of the Drafting group on the manual on PP under the Protocol on Water and Health. The biggest United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development ever held in Brazil on 20-22 June 2012

The biggest UN conference ever held in Brazil on 20-22 June 2012 and resulted in 692 voluntary commitments for sustainable development by different stakeholders and the outcome document of the Conference “The future we want”. Water issue was one of the key themes of the RIO+20 Debates and UN-Water Days sessions at the RIO+20 Conference and reflected in 6 paragraphs of the outcome document. First critical statement was made by the Women’s Major Group (WMG), representing women’s organizations at RIO+20, is greatly disappointed in the results of the Rio+20 conference. Read more...

UN-Water hosted a Water Day on 19 June at the Rio+20 Conference

On 19 June 2012, UN-Water hosted the Water Day at Rio+20, with a series of discussion panels on the importance of water for sustainable development and the Rio+20 process, concentrated on UN-Water contribution to the Rio+20, building on the UN-Water Statement and on the UN-Water deliverables for Rio+20; and the official launching of the Status Report on the Application of Integrated Approaches to the Water Resources Management. Water issue on the agenda of the Dialogues on sustainable Development between Civil Society and official negotiations in the framework of RIO+20 Conference

The Dialogues on sustainable development took place from 16 to 19 June, 2012. The Dialogues were a communication channel between public and official negotiations. Water was on of the themes of the Series of Dialogues. By voting the Implementation of the Right to water and sanitation was recognized as a common public priority. Read more about event...

Danube Day 2012: “Linking the needs of people and the needs of the environment”

Danube river basin is the world's most international river, which included the territories of 19 countries. On 29th June 2012 the International Danube Day was celebrated for the eighth time in Danube riparian countries. Under the Danube Day’s motto “Get active for the Rivers!” hundreds of actions were held in all Danube countries to inspire everyone to take action for the Danube River. Read more...
