The 4th International Dry Toilet Conference was held in Tampere, Finland on 22nd – 24th August 2012 at the Main Campus of the University of Tampere. The Conference was organized by Global Dry Toilet Association of Finland, University of Tampere, Tampere University of Applied Sciences, Tampere University of Technology. There were 160 participants from 38 countries and, in addition, 86 participants in the seminar in Finnish “Käytä kuivana”. The main theme of the conference was Drivers for ecological dry toilets in urban and rural areas. The topics discussed during sessions were the following:
During the conference companies and manufacturers exhibited new Dry Toilets technologies and services. The Exhibition was closely connected to the conference programme, providing exhibitors and delegates with the possibility to connect with professionals from around the world.
A pre-conference workshop Safe and Sustainable Sanitation organized by Tampere University of Technology was held on the 20th – 22nd of August, 2012. The workshop 2012 had a focus on sanitation in emergency situations and gathered more then 40 experts all over the world.
NGO Mama-86-Poltava participated in the Conference with presentation “The problem and perspectives of the ecosanitation technologies in Ukraine: practical aspects” in the session “Economy, profitability and marketing”. The presentation included overview of the general situation with sanitation in Ukraine, positive experience of NGO “Mama-86” on promotion and practical implementation of the eco-sanitation technologies, SWOT analyses and economic reasoning of the eco-san toilets using in the rural areas.
