"Say Thanks to Water!" Contest Winners Announced Print

captionJune 14, 2013, Kyiv — A jury announced winners of the "Say Thanks to Water!" contest carried out from March 22, 2012, to May 15, 2013, by MAMA-86, the Finance & Law Lyceum of the Kyiv Shevchenko National University, and the Water Information Center (Water Museum) with support from the Kyiv City State Administration.

According to the head of the MAMA-86 Kyiv City Branch, Natalia Chyzhmakova, all of the winners are of more or less the same level, so their names on the list appear alphabetically. Of 89 works sent for competition from Kyiv as well as the oblasts of Donetsk and Sumy, the following were named as the best:

The best action:

  • Olena Blyznyuk, Young Naturalists Station, Krasnoarmiysk, Donetsk Oblast, for her work "A small river of my motherland – Kovalykha" and River Data Sheet;
  • Romashka educational organization, Seredyna-Buda, Sumy Oblast;
  • Maryna Marochkina and Yelyzaveta Harbuz for their work "The environmental status of water bodies in my locality – the Vorskla river and its tributary Ryabynka";
  • Denys Litovchenko, Young Naturalists Station, Krasnoarmiysk, Donetsk Oblast, for his work "A river begins from a spring";
  • Iryna Sankovska, teacher of School #246, for the development and conduct of a series of lessons "For Clear Water".

The contest was carried out in order to attract school students to exploring, protecting and restoring water resources, develop a prudent attitude toward water in them, and form their civic responsibility for the condition of water bodies. The contest jury included representatives from MAMA-86, the water/wastewater company "KyivVodoKanal", and the Water Information Center (Water Museum), as well as one coauthors of the contest idea Dmytro Perov, student at the Kyiv Shevchenko National University's Geographic Department.

An award ceremony to give the winners prizes and diplomas will be held on July 7, 2013, on the Obolon Promenade in Kyiv (near 12d Heroiv Stalinhradu St.; beginning at 10:30 a.m.).
