MAMA-86 experts presented in Geneva the Report on Sustainable Consumption and Production Policies and Practice in Eastern Europe |

October 27, Geneva, Switzerland — MAMA-86 Head of the Board Anna Golubovska-Onisimova and Coordinator of Greening Environmental Policy and Practice Programme Marta Ruda participated in the ‘First Eastern Europe Meeting of the 10 Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production (10YFP)’.
The meeting brought together government officials, donors, regional institutions, civil society (NGOs) and business sector representatives. International experts and some UN agencies also participated. This Eastern European meeting was focused on the implementation of the 10YFP at the regional level. During the session on Global and Regional Overview on SCP Mrs. Anna Golubovska-Onisimova presented the results of the Stocktailing in the Region Report, which included the overview of the existing policies, plans and programs to ensure implementation of the green economy and sustainable consumption and production and the instruments for their implementation. ‘Comparing with the previous report, which was conducted in 2008 we can witness positive progress in terms of policies’ implications and realization of practical instruments in the Eastern Europe Region’ Mrs. Golubovska-Onisimova noted. Ukraine’s experience on sustainable consumption and production lifestyles and education was presented during the meeting by Marta Ruda. Annual Green Action Week, best campaigns on waste management, water and sanitation program of MAMA-86 were presented and discussed. ‘Promoting sustainable consumption and production patterns requires bringing together all stakeholders’ interests in order to make a behavioral change, and because of this all the campaigns presented were successful’ underlined Marta Ruda. The meeting was organised with the financial support of the European Union and of Government of Sweden, by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) serving as the 10YFP Secretariat, and convened by Romania and the Russian Federation representatives for Eastern Europe in the 10YFP Board. It took place back to back with the 20th Session of the UNECE Committee on Environmental Policy, which started on October 28, 2014. The 10YFP is a global framework of action to enhance international cooperation to accelerate the shift towards SCP in both developed and developing countries. The framework will support capacity building and facilitate access to technical and financial assistance for developing countries for this shift.
