MAMA-86 Expert Contributes to Round Table on Hazardous Waste Management |

April 25, 2013, Kyiv — The MAMA-86 Head of the Chemical Safety Program, Olga Tsygulyova, made a report on electronic waste problems at the round table "Hazardous Waste Management in Ukraine," held within the framework of the International Ecological Forum "Environment for Ukraine." Ms. Tsygulyova presented results of the project "Public lobbying of implementation of the European approaches to the solution of the problem of e-waste in Ukraine," implemented by MAMA-86 with support from the International Renaissance Foundation's European Program, and expert recommendations on complex solutions of the e-waste problem in Ukraine up to EU standards. The round table was organized by the Ukraine's Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry's Department for Environmental Safety and Permit System. About 40 participants in the event discussed a number of issues, including state policy for handling persistent organic pollutants; identification and classification of hazardous waste; sanitary standards and physicochemical characteristics of substances in hazardous waste; container and packaging wastes as environmental risk factors; mercury-containing waste; and other issues.
