The UNENGO “МАМА-86” took part in the International environmental forum “Environment for Ukraine”, which took place from April 24^th–26^th, 2012 at the International exhibition centre in Kyiv.

The main subject of the events in the framework of the Forum — 2012 became the discussion of principles of creating clean environment on the territory of Ukraine and neighbour countries. Among the participants in the event were representatives of CIS and foreign countries, and international organizations, who work in the sphere of sustainable development, environment protection and strengthening environment safety. The main themes of the V International exhibition “Environment 2012” became the issues of energy saving and organic agriculture.

During the Forum a number of events was held among which were the round table “Public Assessment of environmental policy”, International scientific conference “Green Economy”: prospects for implementation in Ukraine”, Ukrainian conference of students “Sustainable development of Ukraine: economic, environmental and social aspects”, VII International business forum “Forming national policy of sustainable consumption and production: common actions of authorities, business and public” and the V International exhibition “Environment 2012”.

In the framework of the round table “Public Assessment of environmental policy” Zoriana Mishchuk, executive director of the UNENGO “MAMA-86”, moderated the session “Activity of public environmental organizations. Participation of public in making decisions, which have an impact on environment” and presented general review of the situation in this sphere. Zoriana Mishchuk also draw attention of the audience to the tasks of NGOs in the context of preparation of public assessment of environmental policy. Hanna Tsvietkova, “Water and Sanitation” program coordinator of UNENGO “MAMA-86” Anna Tsvetkova shared positive experience of the UNENGO “MAMA-86” on lobbying water policy.

The UNENGO “MAMA-86” took part in work of the International scientific conference “Green economy: prospects for implementation in Ukraine”. In its framework Zoriana Mishchuk made a report “Towards Sustainable Development in Ukraine and throughout the world: challenges, tools, priorities and tasks”. During the Business Forum, dedicated to forming sustainable consumption and production policy Lyudmila Shestakova, head of regional branch of “MAMA-86-Kirovograd” and Galyna Oleinikova, head of regional branch “МАМА-86-Artemivsk”, presented common report on combination of world’s principles of “green” economy with solution to the problems of solid household wastes in Ukraine: experience of the UNENGO “MAMA-86”.

The UNENGO “МАМА-86” also took an active part in work of the International exhibition “Environment-2012” and presented on its exhibition stand information materials and publications, dedicated to the problems of environmental policy, drinking water and sanitation, and issues of chemical safety and hazardous wastes management. Among the presented materials was the annual “EcoMAMA” journal of the organization, brochures “Let’s Free Our Land from Obsolete Pesticides Together” and “Everything about Obsolete Pesticides in Ukraine”, guidelines «What a child should know about personal hygiene”, practical guidelines “Composting” and “How to build a dry toilet”, brochures “The Right to Water and Sanitation: legislation and situation in Ukraine” and “National Targets of Ukraine to Protocol on Water and Health”, information materials about contest for schoolchildren “Say Thanks to Water!” and project “EcoVillage”, initiated by the UNENGO “MAMA-86”, posters, leaflets and other printed materials. On the first day of the exhibition at the stand of “MAMA-86” the video films dedicated to the inventory of obsolete pesticides and drinking water safety and sanitation were demonstrated.

For the achievements in the sphere of environmental educational activities and active participation in work of the Forum the UNENGO “МАМА-86” was awarded the diploma of the International Environmental Forum “Environment for Ukraine”.
