September 11, 2013, Kyiv — MAMA-86 published on YouTube the fourth lecture of the online course on "Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in the Climate Change Conditions: Ukrainian Experience" – "Mathematical Modeling to Support Water Management Solutions." The lecture is read by Dr. Mark Zheleznyak from the Institute for Problems of Mathematical Machines and Systems, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

For the time being, the lecture is available only in Russian. The English version will be uploaded soon.

The main idea of the lecture, Dr. Zheleznyak put it, is "to tell how people who sit at computers and make detailed calculations can be useful for water management."

The online course was initiated by GWP Ukraine with support from GWP Central and Eastern Europe in May 2013. It is aimed at advancing the theory and practice of IWRM adapted to specific natural phenomena in Ukraine, as well as presenting achievements of Ukrainian water experts in order to spread their experience both in Ukraine and abroad, primarily for GWP colleagues in the region of CEE, Caucasus, and Central Asia (for this reason, the course was prepared in Russian with English subtitles).

The first three lectures of the course include the introductory lecture by GWP Ukraine expert Andriy Demydenko on "Features of the Transition to the IWRM in Post-Soviet Countries," the lecture by Dr. Serhiy Afanasyev from the Institute of Hydrobiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine on "EU Water Framework Directive: General Principles and Methodology for Ecological Status Assessment," and the lecture by Prof. Oleksandr Obodovsky, Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University, on "Hydromorphological Assessment of River Water Bodies."
