This year Ukrainian National Environmental NGO «МАМА-86», with support of Swedish Society for Nature Conservation and in cooperation with other partner organizations starts Annual campaigns “Green Consumer Weeks” — national informational and educational campaigns aimed at popularization of sustainable consumption and focused on one of the topical themes of sustainable consumption.

«Green Consumer Weeks » include various informational and educational events for all stakeholders – from consumers to business, and expert discussions and multistakeholder dialogues, aimed at solution of problems of unsustainable consumption. Campaigns will be held on both national and regional levels, thanks to active work of regional network of the UNENGO “MAMA-86” and other organizations and people.

The partner of “MAMA-86” Swedish Society for Nature Conservation, for many years every October has been holding such campaigns in their country. Thanks to their efforts the level of awareness of sustainable consumption advantages was raised, the legal framework that encourages sustainable consumption and prohibits or restricts the supply of environmentally harmful goods and services was developed and a range of eco-friendly manufacturers and sellers was formed.

We hope that popularization of sustainable consumption with implementation of Swedish experience of “Green Weeks” (“Green Consumer Weeks”) will help Ukrainians become more sustainable consumers, and will promote improvement of health of Ukrainians and saving nature in our country.

This year’s “Green Consumer Week” will be held under the slogan «Eco-friendly laundry to Ukrainians!» and aims at decreasing consumption of detergents containing large amounts of phosphates, surfactants and other hazardous substances which threaten human health and environment.

«Green Consumer Week – 2012: Eco-friendly laundry to Ukrainians!» will take place from the 8^th till the 14^th of October 2012 in Kyiv and 12 other regions of Ukraine and will include various activities: street actions, lessons in schools, discussions, multistakeholder’s dialogue with participation of experts, producers and authorities, online activities and other events.
