On the 27th of April, 2012 in the framework of the Ukrainian environmental project “Let’s Make Ukraine Clean!” in Mykulychyn village, of Yaremche municipal council the cleaning of the riverbanks of Meresny (basin of the Prut river) from household wastes took place. The event was held due to the financial and information support of the project “Implementation of sorting solid household wastes in Mykulychyn village” in the framework of Anti-crisis humanitarian program of the International Renaissance Foundation «For Life in Clean Environment!”. The aim of the project is to improve solid wastes management in Mykulychyn village and popularization among population and especially youth the idea of sorting wastes and informing others about solid wastes management. The organizers of the event: “МАМА-86-Yaremche”, the Carpathian national nature park (NNP), village council of Mykulychyn, charitable fund «Carpathian charity». The participants in the event: members of NGOs, employees of NNP and village council of Mykulychyn, volunteers -students of the Mykulychyn public school, representatives of mass media and local residents, in total — 75 people. As a result of the event over 3 km of the Meresny banks were cleaned from household wastes. The participants in the activity were provided with working gloves and bags for collecting wastes. The children who took part in the event, enjoyed the contest with elements of sorting solid wastes. All the young participants were awarded T-shirts with slogan “The future of forests is the future for all” and sweets. Common efforts of children and adults gave the small mountain river its esthetic attractiveness back. Local residents, were interested in the event. It is well known that youth is the strongest link in connection between adults and nature. Let’s hope that no one left indifferent to children’s work and inspiration and each of the participants in the event became a bit more “environmentally conscientious”.
