unhq01On April 4th, 2012, the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations of the Department of Public Information of the UN approved the Ukrainian Environmental Non-governmental Organization “MAMA-86” for association.

 

UNENGO “MAMA-86” became the first and at present the only public organization in Ukraine, which acquired the associative status with the Department of Public Information of the UN.

Department of Public Information (DPI) stands as the intermediary body between NGOs and the United Nations Organization, and supports NGO’s efforts in effective cooperation with the UN in the field of their activity, responsible for information exchange and partnership development with public society.

NGOs have been the partners of DPI since its establishment in 1947, but official relationships between DPI and NGO started in 1968.

With the help of associated NGOs DPI helps people all over the world better understand work and goals of the UN. In total there are 1392 NGOs with the associative status with DPI.

DPI gives a broad spectrum of informational services to NGOs with the associative status. Besides, there are weekly briefings for NGOs, communication trainings, Annual UN DPI/NGO Conference and annual orientation program for organization representatives, which recently have got the associative status. Organizations with the associative status receive grounds passes to the headquarters of the UN in New-York.

At the same time, the association with DPI constitutes important commitments for the organization, in particular, to keep the DPI NGO Relations section informed of its activities, to disseminate information and raise public awareness about the purposes and activities of the United Nations etc.
