June 25 2013, Yaremche, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast — A workshop on "Energy Conservation and Sustainable Management of Natural Resources" was conducted at the Ecotourist Visit Center of the Carpathian National Natural Park for guests of the children's sanatorium Prykarpatsky. MAMA-86-Yaremche held the event in cooperation with the CNNP Environmental Education Department within the framework of the EU Sustainable Energy Week. A total of 28 children attended the workshop. They were not only from the Ivano-Frankivsk but also the Lviv Oblast, which is important in terms of extending the geographical scope, according to the organizers. Issues covered at the workshop included the global problem of exhaustibility of traditional energy sources, as well as the practical experience gained by MAMA-86 in implementing household energy efficiency measures and popularizing the use of renewable energy sources, specifically solar energy, for heating. The participants also acquired practical skills of how to plan the energy resources saving and heat conservation at schools and dwellings. The workshop concluded in familiarizing the participants with the MAMA-86 eco-technologies exhibition at the visit-center. The EU Sustainable Energy Week, initiated by the European Commission, first took place in 2006. This year's EUSEW will last from June 24–28. In Ukraine, this Week is being marked for the third time. Some other MAMA-86 branches also carried out public awareness activities dedicated to the EUSEW, specifically in Kirovohrad and Mykolaiv.
