58 participants took part in the workshop, among them were country representatives from Belarus, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Latvia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Russian Federation, Slovakia; representatives from International Organizations and Projects: International Association of Hydrogeologists, OSCE, OSCE Mission to Moldova, WWF Danube-Carpathian Programme, International Groundwater Resources Assessment Centre (GRAC), TACIS Project “Water Governance in the Western EECCA Countires” (Mott MacDonald), Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute, UNECE, Wetlands International, Black Sea Office, Nature Conservation Agency, North Vidzeme Biosphere reserve, Latvia; Ukrainian state services: State Hydrometeorological Service, State Geological Service of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Ukraine; Ukrainian scientific institutions: Ukrainian Scientific Institute of Hydrometeorology, Ukrainian Scientific-Research Institute of Ecological Problems, Black Sea Branch of Ukrainian Environmental Academy of science, Danube Hydrometeorological Observatory, National Ecological Centre of Ukraine; River Basins Departments of Water Management of SCWRM of Western Bug Basin, Sivers'ko-Donetskii, Dniester-Pryt; non-governmental organizations: Peipsi Center for Transboundary Cooperation, NGO “Eco-TIRAS”, NGO «Ecospectrum-Bender», Global Water Partnership, Wetlands International Black Sea Programme, The European ECO-Forum, Ukrainian river network. Workshop participants discussed river basins transboundary problems of the sub-region of Eastern and Northern Europe and recommendations for the improvements of the transboundary cooperation on water recourses management. This workshop was the second sub-regional workshop held (the first was held in December 2009 in the Caucasus) in preparation for the second assessment of transboundary rivers, international lakes and groundwaters in the European region for the European Ministerial Conference “Environment for Europe” to be held in 2011, Astana, Kazakstan.
