About 30 people participated in the event under the motto "Say Thanks to Water!", held with support from the Global Water Partnership Ukraine within the framework of the UN International Year of Water Cooperation. Villagers from Chornorichya and Chervony Mak joined MAMA-86 activists. The participants sang songs, danced khorovods, and gave Bilbek hand-made presents produced of clay with effective microorganisms, which would help the river get rid of pollutants picked up on its way past gardens, farms and homes.

Museum curator Oleh Potapov told about the history of celebrating Kupala Night (July 6/7) and about our ancestors' love for and gratitude to "Mother River."

The celebration topped off with traditional borsch & pampushky.

The Belbek river, which heads in the Crimean Mountains and falls into the Black Sea, flows through the territory of the Bakhchysaray Raion and within the city limits of Sevastopol. Water from the river is used for potable water supply, in particular in Belbek Valley villages. The river's length is 63 km (about 40 miles).
